RedEye DMS is an Enterprise SaaS Product used to easily search, view & manage Engineering Drawings, Documentation and Asset Data. The data is viewable to every user without the need of multiple specialty engineering software, or disciplinary expertise so that everyone in the organisation has access to the information anywhere, anytime and can trust a single source of engineering truth.
Mapping the Information Architecture
Despite the product being highly valued by Engineering experts, our qualitative research and product analytics showed that irregular users who were either outside of Engineering domains, or who were not directed through the application via task-based notifications, were struggling to unlock all of the key-value features inside RedEye. The first step in understanding why new and irregular users were struggling to find features of value was to assess the existing navigation.

“Findability precedes usability. You can’t use what you can’t find.” — Peter Morville

After mapping the existing Information Architecture, we discovered the features perceived as being most valuable by both users and internal stakeholders were buried beneath layers of legacy navigation.
Our new concept for RedEye Home aimed to bring those features to the front and centre of every experience, for all users.
The New Home promoted team collaboration and new tools such as "picking up where you left off" or "recommended for you" gave our users a familiar starting point every time they logged in to RedEye.

This approach would help minimise the change management as per the clients' request however would also help make clients more aware of key features which was the underlying goal.

Introducing a NEW Asset Home
As a B2B Enterprise product, it was essential that each asset owned by the organisation could have its own "Home" in addition to the users' "Home".
This Asset Home would serve as an organisation-controlled navigation point for all of their asset data and be yet another way for users to find the tools most valuable to them.
